Girls and Garbage

The two big events this month for the Welby 7th Ward Young Women are earning money for camp and reading The Book of Mormon by the end of May.  Today these brave girls literally wallowed in the muck and filth of our neighborhood as they cleaned garbage cans to earn money for camp. There is something to be said about learning to work hard.  These girls are no wimps!!!!
Although the trash was disgustingly dirty and smelly, it was nothing in comparison to the trash that plagues our world and tries to spiritually impede us from reaching our eternal destiny.  Just like the girls were able to protect our neighborhood from trash (literally), they are using the power of the Book of Mormon to spiritually protect themselves from the garbage the world is throwing in their path.
Terrified of Trash
Ezra Taft Benson taught, "From the Book of Mormon we learn how disciples of Christ live in times of war. From the Book of Mormon we see the evils of secret combinations portrayed in graphic and chilling reality. In the Book of Mormon we find lessons for dealing with persecution and apostasy. We learn much about how to do missionary work. And more than anywhere else, we see in the Book of Mormon the dangers of materialism and setting our hearts on the things of the world. Can anyone doubt that this book was meant for us and that in it we find great power, great comfort, and great protection?"

The Can Can

Thanks for your man power, Brother Wardle.

The camera likes Brother Price and the ward likes that the young men aerated our lawns.

Fighting the Dirt

Thanks for the supervision, Brother Fisher.

We could fit in this thing!

Dejunking

This is how it's done.

BEST QUOTE OF THE DAY                                                                                                                                             Referring to Brother Dean, a cute Beehive commented, "He is spraying us and hurrying us."

Look away from the trash.

Hard-working leaders.

It ain't so bad!

As you see these amazing young women and thank them for the clean garbage cans, ask them about what they have learned from The Book of Mormon and how it is strengthening them.  Even better yet, join them in their challenge and read The Book of Mormon so that you, too,  may have the protection from garbage.
