Cub Scouts Raingutter Regatta

- by Kristen Nielson

The cubscouts had our raingutter regatta on Wednesday, June 24.
We had a great time. Evan Granados won in a close final race with Ethan Nielsen. Then we all had popsicles to help beat the heat while we handed out awards.

June Ladies Night Out

For a mid-June girls night out, Relief Society sisters and some of their daughters were able to see "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" which was produced by our own Sister Heather Newbold.

The musical by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber is based off of Joseph's story from the book of Genesis.  As the 11th of 12 sons of Jacob (but the favorite because he was Rachel's firstborn), Joseph was the victim of much of his older brothers' jealous abuse.  Rejected by his brothers, sold into slavery, wrongly accused and sentenced to jail are some horrific trials, yet they did not kill Joseph's faith. With perseverance and endurance, he arose to great power and eventually was able to save his family from starvation.

We can be like Joseph and continue on with faith in our trials.  However, it would probably be a little more fun if our trials came with song and choreography like the musical did.  :)

2015 Seminary Graduation

At a Seminary Celebration in 2012, Elder Boyd K Packer taught the youth that they are in enemy territory.  Seminary is a weapon to be used to fight off the evil the enemy uses to destroy youth and thwart them from achieving their eternal destiny.
At the same celebration, President Henry B. Eyring said, "“Our goal is to teach and learn eternal truth in such a way that a child of God can choose to know and to love our Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son. To you remarkable young men and women who are students, I encourage you—no matter the challenges you face—to attend seminary. Hunger and thirst to know and to do that which the Savior taught. In so doing the Spirit of the Lord will be your constant companion, and He will strengthen you for the battles you will face and the great work you will perform in families and in the Church.”
Referring to the Seminary program, Hannah Corbett (one of the 2015 Seminary Graduates) stated, "It helped me know that the scriptures are true and that they were written for me."

Congratulations Connor Tucker, Erin Atkinson and Hannah Corbett on your your accomplishment.-- What you learned in Seminary will protect you throughout your life and will help you make wise choices.

Hopefully all the youth in our ward will want to participate in seminary and hopefully all parents will encourage this participation.
